Charles’ clinical skills were honed at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry and Sunnybrook Hospital’s Trauma Unit, where he clinically assessed and treated a diverse patient population.
Charles was also employed for 12 years (from 1990 – 2002) by Warren Shepell Consultants, where he developed his skills in management of EAPs. During his tenure with Warren Shepell, he held senior management positions including: Executive Vice President, VP, Business Development and VP, Client Services. He was responsible for the program development and retention of major professional service customers, including: Deloitte & Touche, KPMG, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, William M. Mercer, Towers Perrin, Marsh & McClelland, as well as public institutions such as Queen’s University, Kingston General Hospital, York Region Board of Education, Revenue Canada, Humber College, George Brown College, Hospital for Sick Children, and the Ontario Securities Commission.
In 1991, Charles’ expertise in Critical Incident Stress gave him the opportunity to develop the Trauma Response Program at Warren Shepell Consultants. His knowledge of the trauma field has allowed him to provide high-level consulting to organizations in the area of emergency personnel policy development, change management, restructuring, assessment and delivery of trauma response systems, and training emergency personnel in trauma response.
Charles holds a Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto (1987) and an Honours BA degree in Psychology from York University (1985). He has taken an active role in the community including volunteer counselling at Toronto East General Hospital. Charles is a published author on International EAPs, is currently a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at the Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, and sits on the Executive Boards of his community’s co-operative Kindergarten school, and the Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada.
