Three of the biggest issues facing business owners are employee retention, absenteeism, and loyalty. If your employees are struggling with personal issues, they are distracted and not focusing on their work. A key employee who is “taken out” because of a mental health problem can potentially disable a business.
Having an effective Employee Assistance Program in your business, not just any EAP can help you resolve your current business issues so that productivity does not suffer. An effective EAP provides business owners with peace of mind because the EAP addresses the psychological issues of the troubled employee, thereby allowing the business owner to manage the business.
At your employee’s first-point-of-contact, our 24/7 Clinical Response Centre – our counsellors will answer the phone to assess any concern or difficulty your employees face, big or small, in a confidential, professional, and caring manner.

Mental Health Screening – Depression affects 1 in every 5 Canadians. Half of those afflicted go untreated. In the workplace, depression can manifest itself as alcoholism, absenteeism, low productivity, attitude problems, injury, and physical illness. Aspiria recognizes the emotional and financial toll that depression and substance abuse in the workplace can have on employers, their employees and families. We are committed to heightening awareness about depression and substance abuse in the workplace, and providing early detection and treatment of these challenging problems.
Our Clinical Response Centre is trained to identify the early warning signs of an employee who may be suffering from depression and/or substance abuse. Through a structured assessment that probes risk potential, our counsellor can detect signs of crisis, depression and potential substance abuse. Questions specific to stress, suicide, violence, and substance use are routinely asked in a gentle and natural manner. With the added assistance of our online referral program, the professional counsellor can quickly assess whether an immediate appointment with a specialized counsellor in the assessed problem area is required.
Our professional counselling team is experienced in working closely with police and emergency response personnel to co-ordinate crisis psychiatric evaluations. A call with a distressed organization employee will not be terminated until the professional counsellor is satisfied that a plan is in place to ensure the safety of the employee. If the employee is not in need of immediate medical or psychiatric attention, the employee will be encouraged to meet with one of our professional counsellors in person. The employee is informed that 24-hour professional counselling assistance remains available to them at any time. Often, this will reduce any anxiety they may have regarding their decision to seek counselling.

Management Consultation Services – We provide confidential phone consultations that address challenging problems for business owners, managers and supervisors. The consultation covers many areas of concern, such as performance management, organizational change, substance abuse, workplace conflict, violence, gossip problems, eating disorders, hygiene, disgruntled employees, workplace accidents, trauma, harassment, and other workplace issues that impact performance.
Addiction Services – Aspiria’s addiction counselling and consultation services provide professional counselling to employees and consultation to managers for effectively dealing with alcohol, drug, and gambling problems.
Our highly trained and certified Substance Abuse Professionals (SAP) have specialized experience in the evaluation and management of substance abuse problems, including the use of substance abuse assessment tools. Our EAP professional counsellors work within Drug-Free Workplace.
Assisted Referral Services – Aspiria’s Monitored Referral Program (MRP) is utilized by the employer when they have directed a troubled employee to the services of our EAP in order to monitor the employee’s motivation and progress in resolving the identified issue. For example, when an employer becomes aware of an employee substance abuse problem, or other issues impacting work performance, Aspiria’s EAP can monitor the employee’s counselling for the employer with the employee’s written consent. Information regarding the employee’s compliance and attendance in EAP and subsequent treatment will be reported to the employer.
No clinical content from the employee’s counselling sessions is reported to the employer. This program is available as value added to the employer and may be utilized on an as needed basis. To ensure that the monitored referral process is being used in appropriate situations, we would assist your organization in designing specific protocols, identifying in advance the contact people who would appropriately initiate our Assisted Referral Services.
